Not our idea! It’s a model that’s worked really well in a bunch of places including by our neighbors in Carlisle, Lebanon, West Philly, and North Baltimore.  

Over the past decade, several people have tried to start one in Harrisburg. Our current team just happened to have the right conditions to make it happen. 

 Thursdays 5:30pm - 7:30pm, Saturdays 10am - 12pm, and Sundays 12pm - 2pm

Ahead of opening, we are offering lifetime memberships at $250 a household. These will go away once we are formally opened. If you believe in this project, these memberships are the way to help us get to sustainability. 

Annual memberships are forthcoming. They are sliding scale starting at $0. No need to prove how “poor” you are; just say what you can pay and that’s good enough for us. 

You can drop by during our open hours ( Thursdays 5:30pm - 7:30pm and Sundays 12pm - 4pm) to drop off tools. You’ll receive a receipt for your donation just like when you drop stuff at Goodwill.  

 If you have a large number of items to donate, please contact us at info@hbgtoollibrary.com before dropping them off. Our storage space is limited, and demand for certain tools is especially high. 

A fair question! In practice, tool libraries rarely have issues with theft. Our members take pride in caring for shared tools, and we keep track of what’s checked out just in case.
